On the nature of love and hope

A drift in time is all I ever sought
without these minims, breves or even beat
just songs that flow and enter Beauty’s seat
a glimpse of wondrous stars forever bought
without eyes critical or soul that scolds
a passion pure that loves without a sting
despite discomfort, pain and what they bring
a hand to guide, aesthetic love that holds
I try returning to that Eden’s bliss
I look at pastel skies and want my hope
I calmly sit and analyze the scope
I dance with Fate pursuing that first miss
but I chose her despite her flaws and heart
we’ll fight, perhaps one day forever part
but does that Hope give up on her and me?
That question time and grief will make us see.

  1. This is really smoothly written. The syntax is perfect. I probably would like to see the rhymes a little more complex, but your language really stands out. I love formalist verse done well. This is good craftsmanship. Have you ever read Nick Moore’s blog at https://gonecyclingagain.wordpress.com? Nick can be in his best work an absolute master. Thank you for this.

    1. Thank you very much. I love when people give me constructive criticism. I read your article on sonnets, and that gave me a lot of ideas. I’m intrigued by feminine rhymes. I will experiment slowly. I did follow Nick. I will read his work.

    1. Thank you so much, Sarah. Trust me, ever since I got back to blogging, I’ve been searching for poets like you on WordPress. I’m glad I found your blog.
